The Counter-Strike Major qualification system is about to work again. After the Outsiders won at the IEM Rio Major 2022, Valve decided that the current Major qualification path was better on a different path.
The soon-to-be-changed qualification method saw teams enter an RMR through direct invitations. Players can also go through a qualifying collection to get to the main event, but now Valve wants a different system.
CS:GO developers have published a blog post detailing the upcoming change. “In the coming weeks, we will be announcing more details about the new Regional Rankings processes,” they wrote.
But for now, all we know is the top-ranked Counter-Strike teams that have “consistently performed well on Valve and third-party events will be directly invited to a close qualifier.” Dot Esports understands that some teams will still be invited directly.
This new and improved system will go into effect before the 2023 Paris Major.

The blog post also detailed about the new “champions signature capsule”. Counter-Strike’s latest Major winners, the Outsiders, will all be named on glitter, holo, and gold stickers that will be placed on in-game CS:GO weapons.
These changes could come in handy for teams like G2 Esports and Astralis that have performed well in previous events, potentially solidifying their massive turnout. If you’re lucky, it will take away your chances of being upset if you’re a stronger squad.
We’ll have to wait to see what Valve has in store for avid Counter-Strike fans. Fortunately, we’re only a few weeks away from knowing more about Paris in 2023.
