Medyanotu.com / Detay-Actor İsmail Ege Şaşmaz, who played ‘Barış Akarsu’ in the movie Barış Akarsu Hello, which tells about the life of the famous singer Barış Akarsu, who passed away at a young age, made striking statements about the process of being involved in the film.
In an interview with Hakan Gence from Hürriyet Newspaper, the actor said, “I was in another project a year before the film was made. I called my manager Ahmet (Koraltürk) as if I was born into it at that time and said, ‘If there is a movie by Barış Akarsu, let’s see what happens’”, he underlined that he very much wanted to take a role in the movie.
Stating that he loved Barış Akarsu very much, Şaşmaz said, “Barış Akarsu was in a very different place for me. When I was in high school, I sometimes sang in the places I went to, I usually read the songs that Barış also sang. Then I started to learn the story of Barış. The word his grandfather said to him was the same as my grandfather’s; “Be one thing, be the best.”
The actor described the moment when the role came to him as follows; “My lawyer Serdar Öktem called and said, ‘Do you want to meet for the movie Barış Akarsu?’ I was abroad, I went to the interview as soon as I got back. It’s right across from my house. We agreed that day.”
Working with her acting coach Bahar Kerimoğlu while preparing for the role, Şaşmaz said, “We had a 2.5-month process. We talked to Barış’s friends and family. It was very special to listen to Barış from them. For two months I closed myself at home, cut off my connection with the outside world. At every opportunity, I watched his videos, listened to the audio recordings, observed his movements, speaking style and reactions. Even while I was sleeping, I was listening to his songs and sleeping with him in my ear.”
Stating that he watched Barış Akarsu’s stage performances and concerts many times, Şaşmaz said, “I worked on their movements and facial expressions one by one. The concert shooting scene of the song ‘Wet Wet’ was in Amasra. I went on stage with a completely different feeling. The audience at the concert were the people of Amasra, who had listened to Barış many times on that stage. All of them were excited as if they had come to watch Barış, so I got very emotional. I closed my eyes and said ‘Come on Peace’. He also drew attention with his words, “I can never forget what I felt on that stage that day.”
İsmail Ege Şaşmaz, who performed the songs himself in the film, worked with vocal coach Murat Çekem. Şaşmaz, who also took singing lessons, said, “We started working on Barış’s singing style. I had to play the guitar in the movie. We started very intensive guitar lessons with Taner Karakaya. We moved them all together,” he said.
